MacHider Review

Written by Lisa in Apps

Welcome to another Friday review.  This week you guys will be reading about MacHider and its many features.  MacHider, as the name suggests, is an application for hiding files like pictures, movies, folders, and applications.  MacHider was made by MacPaw, like CleanMyMac.  MacHider hides those important files that you don’t want people to see.

There are many applications out there offering security and the promise if hiding applications.  Some of those have been good, others bad, but MacHider is the best I have used in a long time.  It offers the possibility of hiding files, folders, pictures, and more by dragging and dropping the file into the MacHider window.  It’s as simple as that!  MacHider also offers the ability to set a password, asking you everytime you open the application.  One time, I was using an application for hiding some folders and I could not figure out how to unhide those files!  I was so angry and the I finally found someone else with a similar problem.  MacHider, unlike the troublesome application I used, has a nice UI and a very clear, simple toolbar.  You can add/remove groups, items, and a clearly labeled button restores the hidden items.  These folders are even customizable so you can change the folder icon to whatever you like.

That’s about it. MacHider, by MacPaw, is a great application that costs $19.95 but can be tested by a free trial.  I have absolutely no suggestions for how to make MacHider any better.  Guys, go out and buy a license or just try the free download.  Trust me, it will pay off.  I hope everyone had a good week and will have a great weekend!  Also, you guys can email me any time of the day to let me know your favorite application or a suggestion for a review at lisa[at]

  1. Or, of course. You could append a “.” to the filename.
